The Ukrainian president announced that he has arrived in Sweden for talks with the government, political parties and the royal family, with whom he will discuss “partnership, defense cooperation, EU integration and common Euro-Atlantic security”. Russia remains “fully committed to the principle that nuclear war is unacceptable”, believes that “there can be no winners in such a conflict and consequently it should never be unleashed”. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview quoted by the Tass agency. “It is necessary to prevent any military confrontation between nuclear powers, because it risks turning into a nuclear confrontation: the most important objective at the moment is that each nuclear power exercises maximum restraint”, stressed Lavrov. US intelligence estimates that Ukraine’s counteroffensive will fail to reach Melitopol, the key city in the southeast of the country. This was reported to the Washington Post by anonymous sources familiar with such information currently considered confidential, a prediction which if it turns out to be correct, would mean that Kiev would fail to achieve one of the main objectives of its counteroffensive, i.e. succeed in blocking the corridor within the year linking Russia to Crimea.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reveals: “500,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers died or were wounded during the conflict”.
