Samsung Develops 1-Inch Image Sensor, Challenging Sony’s Dominance in Android Flagships

With the increase in the size of mobile phones and the development of mobile phone images, Android flagships have officially entered the era of 1-inch super outsoles. The main mirror of flagship models such as Mi 13 Ultra, Mi 12S Ultra, OPPO Find X6 Pro, vivo X90 Pro+ is a 1-inch Sony IMX989. It can be said that Sony is the only one.

Recent news revealed that Samsung is developing a 1-inch image sensor, the model is ISOCELL GN6, which is an upgraded version of ISOCELL GN1 and ISOCELL GN2. The sensor will break Sony’s dominance.

Before the launch of the Sony IMX989, the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor that was first launched on the Mi 11 Ultra was the largest Sensor at the time. The size of the sensor is 1/1.12 inch, which is very close to 1 inch.

The ISOCELL GN6 currently being developed by Samsung will be a 1-inch super outsole. The sensor has a large pixel size of 1.6µm, which is larger than GN2’s 1.4µm, which can capture more picture details and reduce noise in low-light environments.

In addition, ISOCELL GN6 has 50 million pixels, which is very close to the number of pixels of Sony IMX989. The configuration specifications are basically the same, which means that after the release of ISOCELL GN6, it will become the most direct opponent of Sony IMX989.
