WASHINGTON – Former President of the United States (US) Donald Trump warned that the dollar is ready to lose its status as the world’s reserve currency and the country’s position on the geopolitical totem pole.

This warning appeared in an interview with Fox Business on Thursday (17/8/2023).

“Our country is going to hell and we’re not going to be big boys,” Trump claimed, arguing, “We have power, but it’s dwindling. In fact, it’s fading in terms of our currency.”

If the dollar stops being the world’s reserve currency, “that would be bigger than losing any war,” continued the US and Republican presidential nominee.

While this was “unthinkable” under Trump’s presidency, he said, “now people are thinking about it,” especially China putting the US in danger of being overthrown as global hegemon.

This is even more worrying given the current state of the US as a country, according to Trump.

“We have returned to third world status in many ways. You see our airports, you see our terminals, you see our dirty roads and broken roads and things, we’re like a third world country,” Trump said.

He blamed the Biden administration for the state’s decline. Trump indicated his successor had fueled the current inflation spiral with a moratorium on new oil drilling.
