A faction called “Center faction for Narva” has been born in the city council of Narva, which is unfortunately misleading the residents and is not coordinated with the Narva local region or the leadership of the Center Party, said Jüri Ratas, chairman of the Center Party.
According to Ratas, a faction whose members only ran in local elections on the list of the Central Party should not use the name of the party in the council.
“The Center Party is a well-known brand and I understand why there is a desire to use it, but using the name of the party in this way, and in a situation where only ONE member of the faction out of nine has run in the last local elections on the list of the Center Party and asked voters for support, is clearly wrong,” he said. .
According to Ratas, this is unfair to both voters and party members, especially those who have run on the Central Party’s list and stood for the party’s principles in the elections.
“I am sorry that there is an attempt to hijack the name of the party in Narva, and I think that as the chairman of the Center Party, I have to respond clearly to it. The Estonian Center Party is open to good people, and I urge you not to decorate yourself with foreign feathers, but to join the Center Party and the team that exists and where the Narva region is led by Tarmo Tammiste and Tatjana Stolfat, the chairman of the city council of the city council faction, if you wish,” he said.
