FC Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer
The captaincy at FC Bayern Munich for the new season has not yet been announced, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will most likely remain in office. Because this is initially still injured, may well as in the previous season Thomas Müller as first and Joshua Kimmich wear the armband as the second representative of the national goalkeeper.
was for five years Marco Reus Captain number one at BVB, but now he has passed on the armband at his own request – and Edin Terzic chose Emre Can as captain for Borussia Dortmund. The 29-year-old national player switched to the Black and Yellows in 2019 and wore the armband for Dortmund for the first time at the start of the DFB Cup season – it was only his second time as captain in a starting eleven. At Liverpool FC he once led his team onto the pitch in the FA Cup.
Officially, Willi Orban is only the new captain of the Saxons from this season, but Orban almost always led RB Leipzig on the field in the previous season because he was the first goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi injured. This summer there is now a complete replacement – although Gulacsi will not be out for much longer.
1. FC Union Berlin: Christopher Trimmel
Continuity in the capital Berlin: right-back Christopher Trimmel continues to lead the team as the first captain. The 36-year-old goes into his sixth year with the bandage around his arm. Since Trimmel is no longer permanently set in old age, it will probably be a sixth Rani Khedira as the first representative also wear the captain’s armband more often.
Unsurprisingly, Christian Günter was once again voted captain by his team at SC Freiburg. The left-back, who has been with the SCF since 2006 and has never played for any other club, is entering a fourth season as captain of the Breisgauer. Before that, he had already worn the armband for a year as Maik Frantz’s deputy in 31 games.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen: Lukas Hradecky
The Finnish goalkeeper will lead Bayer 04 Leverkusen onto the field again next season. Lukas Hradecky came from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 and was a regular keeper from the start. He is now entering his third season as captain of the Werkself.

Eintracht Frankfurt: Sebastian Rode
Injuries repeatedly threw Sebastian Rode back, so that the Eintracht captain was not able to be in the starting XI week after week. That is why Rode is expected to end his career in 2024, as he himself explained. Until then are oldie Makoto Hasebewho also only plays on a rotating basis, and regular keeper Kevin Trapp the representatives.
VfL Wolfsburg: Maximilian Arnold
“I have no reason to change anything,” said Niko Kovac at the start of the season – so Maximilian Arnold remains captain number one. Kovac himself only promoted him to the boss position when he took office in the summer of 2022. His predecessor Koen Casteels continues to be Arnold’s first deputy, who missed just two Bundesliga games last season.
At 1. FSV Mainz 05 nothing will change in the captain’s ranking. Silvan Widmer will retain the post he took over from Moussa Niakhate in 2022. Because the right-back, however, with Danny daCosta Dueling for a regular place and also prone to injury will be like last season Robin Zentner wear the armband as a substitute as a regular goalkeeper.
Borussia Monchengladbach: Jonas Omlin
When legends leave, the captain often has to change as well. Lars Stindl has led the foals as captain since 2016, but in the summer of 2023 he decided to move to his home country of Karlsruhe. Goalkeeper Jonas Omlin replaces Stindl as the bearer of the armband – the winter transfer had already proven itself as a leading player in his first half at Borussia Mönchengladbach and was therefore the first choice.
It’s year one after Jonas Hector, because a legend also left Gladbach’s rival. The Cologne veteran has been responsible for the bandage since 2018 – before that he acted as a substitute captain for a long time. But after the end of his career, a new one has to carry this burden. Steffen Baumgart chose manager and top performer Florian Kainz. He was already co-captain in the previous season and led the team onto the field three times.
TSG Hoffenheim: Oliver Baumann
Last season Benjamin Hübner started the new season as captain. But the veteran ended his career in December 2022 due to persistent injuries – and even then Oliver Baumann moved up from co-captain to number one. This summer it will remain the same – the regular keeper of TSG Hoffenheim also wears the captain’s armband.

SV Werder Bremen: Marco Friedl
Marco Friedl is going into his second year as captain. In 2022, the Austrian took over as captain from Ömer Toprak and navigated his Heanseats to safely stay up in the league. The reward: Friedl remains captain at SV Werder Bremen.
VfL Bochum 1848: Anthony Losilla
The now 37-year-old Anthony Losilla is now entering his fifth season as captain of VfL Bochum 1848. But – and this was important to Thomas Letsch – he didn’t just get the captain’s armband out of habit: “He’ll remain the captain because he’s an absolute model player , who fully identifies with the club. He showed on and off the pitch last season that he is the captain we need.”
FC Augsburg: Ermedin Demirovic
The new captain of FC Augsburg, Ermedin Demirovic, is proud of his new position. In the team council, “we want to lead the way and ensure that we act as a team with unity and a lot of heart in every game and that we achieve our goals.” Unity and heart – two values that the passionate attacker represents like no other.
Defender Waldemar Anton will take over the armband at VfB Stuttgart next season. In 2020, Anton switched from Hannover 96 to the Swabians – and in his second season he took on the role of vice-captain. In what is now his fourth season in the Baden-Württemberg state capital, the 27-year-old will be the first team leader to lead the field.
1. FC Heidenheim 1846: Patrick Mainka
At 1. FC Heidenheim 1846, coach Frank Schmidt is counting on consistency after the club’s first promotion to the Bundesliga. The trio of promotion captains will also lead the FCH in the coming season. Patrick Mainka leads the way as frontman. veteran Norman Theuerkauf and second division top scorer Tim Kleindienst represent the defense chief.
SV Darmstadt 98: Fabian Holland
The lilies don’t change their captain either. Fabian Holland took over the captaincy permanently in 2019 and moved from the left wing to the center of midfield in the past season. There he can steer his team even better – and should do the same this season. Whether more often from the center or from the left side of defense remains to be seen.
