Chris Christie Urges Trump to Address Mounting Allegations Amidst Criminal Cases

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie has said his rival, Donald Trump, should not ignore the mounting allegations against him, despite denying all of them.

Christie, a former New Jersey governor and longtime Trump ally and critic, stressed that the fact that Trump is being prosecuted in four different criminal cases means he and Republican voters will have to navigate uncharted waters.

“Trump needs to be smart and careful about it, if that’s possible at all. The point is, he’s a criminal defendant,” Christie told ABC.

So far, Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, which stem from New York state court, Florida federal court, and federal court in Washington, D.C. A fourth case was filed today by an Atlanta-area prosecutor. before a grand jury.

Some restrictions have been placed on Trump in connection with his allegations, including a protective order issued by the federal judge overseeing his January 6 case in Washington. This order prohibits the disclosure of “sensitive” information that Trump will obtain through the discovery process by prosecutors.

The judge also warned against “inflammatory statements” that “could contaminate the jury pool or intimidate potential witnesses.”

The judge in Trump’s New York state case issued a similar order

Christie stated that “you are subject to certain restrictions, and the reason you are subject to those restrictions is because a grand jury has found that there is probable cause that you have committed criminal acts.”

Challenging the opinion of the federal judge in Washington, who said that “the existence of a political campaign will not affect my decision,” Christie commented that “I think it is impossible for politics not to play a part in this case. It is not a criminal case. normal, and politics is going to play a part in that.

Trump is scheduled to stand trial next year at the same time he is in the middle of the Republican primary campaign, meaning voters of the party will be able to make their own judgment, Christie said.

“I think all these things are what people will have to process for the first time in a presidential race,” he said. “And what I think Republican voters need to ask themselves are two things: First, is the individual charged in four different cases really, given the behavior he committed, someone who can beat Joe Biden or any other Democrat in November 2024? And when will we stop pretending this is normal?”

Christie repeats in the search for the Presidency

Christie previously ran for president in 2016 and launched a second presidential bid in early June. He hasn’t hesitated to denounce the former president, including him at nearly every campaign event for him thus far.

For his part, Trump has dismissed Christie as a “failed” candidate and governor, and early polls show Christie trailing considerably behind Trump and other hopefuls.

The first debate of the 2024 Republican primary will take place on August 23 in Milwaukee. To participate in the scenario, candidates must sign a loyalty pledge with the Republican National Committee that promises to eventually endorse the winner of the nomination.

Both Christie and Trump have criticized the loyalty pledge. Trump said last week that he would not sign it: “I can name three or four people that I would not support as president. So right there, there is a problem.”

He has also suggested that he sees no point in attending the first debate, given his lead in the polls.

Christie himself has yet to sign the pledge and said Sunday that debate organizers have not presented it to him as they are still verifying the eligibility of candidates to take the stage.
