The United States will be ready, in cooperation with Congress, to approve the transfer of the F-16 to Ukraine after pilot training is completed.
The transfer of F-16 fighters for the defense needs of Ukraine by third countries will take place after the completion of pilot training. Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the President of the United States, said this at a briefing on Friday, August 18.
According to him, the United States will be ready, in cooperation with Congress, to approve the transfer of the F-16 to Ukraine.
“This follows from what the president has said before. I do not quite understand why questions arise in this regard, but in order to finally dispel them, I will say that after the training of the pilots, the transfer of aircraft will begin. We are working on this with Congress and our allies,” he said.
The day before, Reuters reported that the United States officially approved the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands. Deliveries may begin after Ukrainian pilots master these fighters. Denmark and the Netherlands confirmed this information this morning.
Recall that in July, a coalition was officially created to train Ukrainians on the F-16, which included 11 countries.
At the same time, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba slightly moved the schedule for providing Ukraine with F-16 aircraft.
