Microsoft to Close Xbox 360 Store in 2024: Focus Shifts to New Game Pass Platform

On Friday, the American company, Microsoft, announced its intention to close the “Xbox 360” store, as of July 29, 2024.

And the company said, in a post on the “Xbox” website, that “users of old versions of the game consoles will not be able to purchase or download any new games through the store.”

It added that it would allow them to continue using the games they had previously purchased.

According to the publication, Xbox 360 users will be allowed to purchase games that are compatible with their devices only, as the company seeks to focus on its new platform, Game Pass, for game subscriptions.

The company stated that technology has evolved a lot since the launch of the “Xbox 360” in 2005, and users’ expectations about the product have changed, so the company is interested in developing the “XS” series of new devices to enhance its gaming experience in the future.

Next November marks the 18th anniversary of the launch of the platform, as the platform was a major reason for an entire generation entering the gaming field for the first time, and communicating with friends around the world.

Microsoft is a leading global technology company that offers a wide range of products and services, including computer hardware, software, applications and cloud services.
