The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) monitors whether the tiger mosquito occurs in the Netherlands.
At the moment, the mosquitoes, larvae or eggs sometimes come along with the import of various products, such as car tires. In addition, they can hitch a ride with cars, trucks or caravans. The eggs can survive well during transport.
If the tiger mosquito is found, it will be combated on location by the NVWA. This is a precautionary measure, so that the mosquito cannot settle in the Netherlands.
The tiger mosquito was first found in the Netherlands in 2005.
