Recently, President Xi Jinping replied to the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology in South Africa, encouraging them to learn Chinese well and contribute to the inheritance and development of the friendship between China and South Africa and the promotion of China-Africa friendship and cooperation.
Xi Jinping pointed out that ten years ago, I witnessed the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology. I am very pleased to see that through the joint efforts of both sides, the educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries have yielded fruitful results. Many young South Africans have learned about Chinese history and culture through learning Chinese, broadened their career choices, and realized their dreams in life.
Xi Jinping emphasized that both China and South Africa are important developing countries. The two countries have a special friendship of comrades and brothers. Learning and understanding each other’s language and culture will help promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and friendship from generation to generation. While learning Chinese well, you are welcome to visit and see more of China, to know and understand China more deeply, and to use what you have learned, thought, seen and heard to introduce a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China to more people. In March 2013, during President Xi Jinping’s visit to South Africa, he witnessed the signing of the agreement on the joint establishment of the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology between China and South Africa. Since its establishment ten years ago, the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology in South Africa has trained nearly 10,000 students.
