JawaPos.com – Microsoft’s gaming division, Xbox will close its online store for Xbox 360 console games, namely the Xbox 360 store in July 2024. This announcement was made by CVP Xbox Player Services Dave McCarthy in an upload on the official Xbox blog.
According to Dave, this closure was motivated by the age of the old Xbox 360 console and Microsoft’s shift in strategy to focus on the latest technology.
“A lot has changed since the launch of the Xbox 360 in November 2005 or about 18 years ago. Today technology has changed and our strategy is now focused on making the latest generation console Xbox Series X/S the best entertainment device for the future,” wrote Dave as quoted from The Verges.
Furthermore, Dave explained that starting July 29, 2024 users will no longer be able to purchase games, extra content (DLC), and a number of other content involving the Xbox 360 on consoles or the Xbox marketplace website.

Even though the online store no longer exists, games and Xbox 360 content that users have purchased at the Xbox 360 store can still be accessed and enjoyed, quoted from Game Informer.
Not only can this content be accessed on the Xbox 360, but it can also be accessed on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as long as the user is logged in using the same Xbox account.
Going forward, starting July 29, 2024, users will be able to purchase Xbox 360 games and DLC via the Xbox.com website and the Xbox online store on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Apart from the Xbox 360 store, Dave said that the Microsoft Movies and TV applications installed on the Xbox 360 will no longer be accessible as of July 29, 2024. This means that the content in the application can no longer be enjoyed.
To watch movies that have been purchased on the Microsoft Movies and TV application on the Xbox 360, users can download the Microsoft Movies and TV application on a Windows 10 PC or later and on the Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S console.
