Israel Sells Arrow 3 Missile Defense System to Germany Amid Rising Security Concerns

TEL AVIV – Ministry of Defense Israel say United States of America (US) has given the go-ahead to sell missile defense system Arrow 3 ke German .

“The sale of USD3.5 billion will be Israel’s largest defense deal,” the ministry said DWThursday (17/8/2023).

According to a statement from the Israeli Defense Ministry, a purchase agreement must now be signed by the two countries’ Ministry of Defense and Israel Aerospace Industries, with the contract due to be completed by the end of 2023.

“The contract will be preceded by a Letter of Commitment signed by Israel and Germany, for an initial payment of USD 600 million,” the statement said.

An Israeli defense official quoted by Reuters news agency said the system was expected to be fully operational in Germany by 2030.

The Arrow 3 missile defense system, jointly developed by the Israeli and US missile defense agencies, is designed to intercept ballistic missiles above Earth’s atmosphere.

Germany said it would take delivery of the Arrow 3 in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Berlin is seeking to boost its air defense capabilities in light of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, which has sparked security fears across Europe.
