A small passenger plane crashed in Malaysia over a road in the central state of Selangor on Thursday, killing all eight people on board as well as two people on the way.
The accident occurred near the city of Ilmina, on the outskirts of Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor state.

“At the moment, I can say that at least 10 people have been killed in the plane crash,” local police chief Muhammad Iqbal Ibrahim told AFP. He explained that “two people, one in a car and the other on a motorcycle, were killed, along with the eight people on board.” The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement that the plane had 6 passengers and two crew on board when it crashed. The authority did not mention any outcome of the accident. The head of the authority, Nur Zaman Mahmoud, said that the plane took off from the island of Langkawi in the north of the country, heading to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, located west of the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Mahmoud explained that “no distress call was made,” indicating that an investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the accident. One of the dead passengers is a member of the Pahang state parliament in charge of housing and environment affairs, according to police. Transport Secretary Anthony Lockie announced that the plane had been granted permission to land but “veered to the right of the runway”, adding that investigators’ efforts were focused on finding the black box. “At the moment we cannot announce the cause that led to the crash, since searches are still ongoing,” he said in a press conference.

Muhammad Siahmi Muhammad Hashim, a former member of the Malaysian Air Force, narrated that he saw the plane flying unusually. He added, “After a short time, I heard a loud bang.” He continued, “I quickly went to the site and saw the wreckage of the plane. I also saw a burning body of a person. There was nothing I could do.” Other eyewitnesses said that the plane, a Beechcraft 390, caught fire when it hit the ground in Elmina Estate, a neighborhood that includes residential homes and factories, also confirming that they heard an explosion.
