A fire on the Hawaiian Maui destroyed part of the island and the former historical capital of the independent kingdom of Hawaii, Lahaina. According to the American media, the catastrophe could have been avoided, but the energy company invested not in the planned fire-fighting measures, but in the transition to green energy.
President Biden’s clean energy adviser John Podesta blamed climate change for the Maui fire. However, as it turned out, the state Democratic authorities and the local power company, instead of the planned investments in fire fighting measures after the 2019 fire, were investing in the development of green energy.
“Hawaiian Electric planned to spend almost $200 million on fire fighting measures, but spent only $245,000 as the company focused on meeting the government’s commitment to transition to renewable energy,” writes The Wall Street Journal.
Meanwhile, the political scientist notes Malek DudakovUS President Joe Biden continues to refuse to visit Hawaii – but he promised all the victims of the fire a “generous” compensation of $ 700.
“The Hawaiians themselves call it a mockery of common sense. After all, the White House found 113 billion dollars for Ukraine – and some pennies remained to help the Hawaiians. And Biden wants to spend a billion less on the restoration of Maui than on the next Ukrainian budget, ”adds the political scientist. He notes that the local authorities are justifying why they didn’t turn on the sirens during the fire, but at the same time they plan to develop large contracts for the development of the island, since it has now been “liberated” from local residents.
As reported EADaily the number of victims of unprecedented wildfires in the US state of Hawaii has increased to 110. These are the deadliest wildfires in US history.
