Flims – A 48-year-old Tyrolean fell into the water in a boat accident in the Rhine Gorge in the Swiss canton of Graubünden on Tuesday and was seriously injured. She had to be resuscitated and is in critical condition. The woman belonged to a group of five vacationers from Austria, said the Graubünden cantonal police on Wednesday. The Tyroleans traveled down the Vorderrhein from Versam station in three canoes. The route is considered easy whitewater.
According to the Swiss authorities, one of the canoes collided with a poorly visible rock in the Chrummwag area. The woman and her son were then thrown from the boat. Members of the group rescued the ten-year-old and brought him to safety on the shore. The 48-year-old mother was only pulled out of the water 200 meters downstream.
Those present immediately began resuscitation and alerted the Swiss air rescue service (Rega). A helicopter flew the seriously injured to a hospital in Chur. The police and the public prosecutor are investigating. (APA, TT.com)
