5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Muarabinuangeun, Banten, West Java

BANTEN, KOMPAS.com An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 rocked Muarabinuangeun, Banten, West Java, Thursday (17/8/2023).

The earthquake occurred around 11.28 WIB.

According to the official website of the Meteorology, Climotology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was 96 kilometers southwest of Muarabinuangeun, Banten.

The earthquake was at a depth of 60 kilometers and was located 7.62 South Latitude-105.51 East Longitude.

“There is no potential for a tsunami,” the BMKG said in its statement.

BMKG urges residents to be careful with the risk of aftershocks that might occur.
