Samsung is working on another VR headset called Samsung XR
Images of a prototype of this device appeared on one of the Chinese websites
In terms of price, it will be half of the solution from Apple, but we will most likely not see it until next year
Samsung also wants to get involved in the segment of virtual and augmented reality and, for example, with the Gear VR device, it has already tried to do so. At the Samsung Unpacked event in February this year, the Koreans announced the development of a new generation of glasses labeled Samsung XR. Now, on the Chinese website Vrtuoluo, images of the prototype of this device appeared, and although they were deleted after a while, many other servers managed to take them over.
From the images we can see that the prototype has a total of 4 cameras in the corners. According to other information, the device also features a pair of RGB cameras and a depth sensor for monitoring the surrounding environment and hand movements. Among the equipment, we must also mention OLED displays and pancake lenses, which are thinner than classic ones and save space.
The controversial Samsung Exynos 2200 chip plays the leading role
Instead of the Qualcomm XR SoC chip, the often-criticized Samsung Exynos 2200 chip is to be used. It is quite energy-intensive and also temperature unstable. Perhaps the Koreans managed to eliminate these ailments. As with the Apple Vision Pro, we’ll look in vain for any controllers with motion tracking. The device is supposed to rely entirely on eye and hand tracking, however the price tag will be quite different. For Apple’s solution, we expect a price with tax somewhere below the 100,000 crown mark. The competition from Samsung is expected to be around a third to a half.
However, all this information should be taken with a grain of salt. The official launch of the Samsung XR is far from over, and according to some information, it has even been pushed to the middle of next year. Many parameters and properties can still change during this period. Hopefully, Samsung will be able to create an interesting product that will compete with Apple in terms of capabilities and price. This would definitely boost the whole market of AR/VR products.

I enjoy Apple, quality audio-video technology and generally smart solutions that work. I try to spend my free days cycling in bike parks and trail centers, or in the mountains with a backpack on my back. I enjoy good music, sometimes an interesting book and I like to travel.
