The Ensamble B11 group will represent Venezuela at the upcoming Ibero-American Music Expo (Exib Music 2023), which will take place from October 18 to 21 in Setúbal, Portugal.
The group formed in 2015 applies beat boxing techniques to show the phonemes of Afro-Venezuelan drums.
“This makes us show music in a fresh format, with the intention of turning the eyes of young people who only listen to genres from other countries, ignoring ours,” says Belkys Figuera, general director and singer.
They will be presented in two formats: one vocal and the other instrumental, “which allows us to notice the similarity of both sounds.”
There they will offer their Afro-Venezuelan repertoire: “We will also show the fusion with agro-Caribbean rhythms.”
They will show calypso, culoe’puya and quitiplas drums, songs of lavanderas, parrandas, aguinaldos, rhythm of jota cumanesa fused with quichimba drums, sangueos and more”.
They will carry didactic samples of the traditional festivals of Venezuela such as the Cruz de Mayo, San Antonio, San Juan, San Pedro and Calipso, among others.
Ensamble B11 currently is formed by Belkys Figuera, Manuel Herrera (musical director, four and voice); Ivanna Lira, Deilyn Uzcategui and Naiyaleth Garcia (vocals); Victor Gonzalez, Adrian Peña and Benito Palacios (percussionists); and Cesar Alcala (bass).
