The State Border Service (SBS) of Latvia announced the urgent mobilization of border guards on the border with Belarus, writes August 15 “Kommersant” with reference to the publications of the Baltic media.
It is reported that the border guards are recalled from vacations. The State Border Service requested additional support from the Latvian army and police.
As Kommersant clarifies, the border service said that the decision was due to the growing threat on the Latvian-Belarusian border. It is alleged that 96 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian border from Belarus were recorded during the day, and allegedly “Belarusian security forces began to actively help illegal migrants.”
Let’s remind, since August, 11th Latvia has entered the strengthened regime of protection of border with Belarus. And on August 8, Poland deployed an additional thousand troops to the Belarusian border.
Earlier in Warsaw, it was stated that two Belarusian helicopters allegedly violated the air borders of Poland. But the Ministry of Defense of Belarus refuted the accusations of the Poles with the help of objective control data.
