Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Tri-State Region: The Latest Weather Forecast

NEW YORK – A severe weather system that impacted the Mid-Atlantic coast Monday night and early Tuesday left several streets inundated in different parts of the tri-state region. However, we are not done with Tuesday’s rain yet.

After a midday break, which will be cloudy and wet, more scattered thunderstorms are possible throughout the afternoon and evening, some of which could be strong to severe. Those showers are expected to arrive around 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Also, there is likely to be lightning for the night with destructive winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes. The areas most at risk for severe weather Tuesday night are the New Jersey shoreline and eastern Long Island.

The rest of the work week looks mostly clear, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 80s. Storms then close out the week on Friday before another front hits the area for the weekend.

Early Tuesday, many cities and towns received about an inch of rain with some localized areas collecting an estimated two to four inches, according to estimates. Some of the heaviest rain fell in Suffolk County, from near Brookhaven to Twin Forks.

Much of next week looks clear, but it’s summer so that could change if a thunderstorm shows up.
