Priests and Believers Offer Mass at Ernakulam St. Mary’s Basilica Amidst Vatican Conflict

A group of priests and believers offered mass at St. Mary’s Basilica in Ernakulam, which had been closed for months. More than 200 priests and more than 1000 believers offered public mass today, right after the conflict broke out following the visit of the Vatican representative. At the same time, the Vatican representative stated that endless talks with the rebel group are no longer possible. ( Ernakulam St Marys Cathedral Basilica Qurbana )

A section of priests and faithful of Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese are announcing that they will not accept the unified Mass and will not yield to the Pontifical Delegate. At four o’clock in the evening, the priests and the faithful who supported the public mass came from the bishop’s house to the basilica.

Months later, the Synod overrode the decision of St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, which was opened, and the Mass was celebrated by senior priests.

Meanwhile, the devotees celebrated by bursting firecrackers. Various parishes have prepared resolutions in support of public mass. However, the Vatican representative is taking a tough stance against the protesters. Mar Cyril Vasil said that endless discussion is no longer possible.

Meanwhile, the Kochi Central Police has registered a case against around 100 people who were known to have been seen in yesterday’s conflict.

The Vatican representative insists that there is no longer any discussion with the rebel group. But at the same time, a section of priests and believers in the Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese reiterated their position that they would not accept the uniform way of offering the Eucharist. In that case, what is confusing the church leadership is how to solve the problem.
