Moroccan Ministry Introduces Contract to Regulate Tuition Fees in Private Education Sector

Tuition fees will be defined from the start of the 2023-2024 school year in such a way as to put an end to the controversy linked to the recurring increases in the private education sector.

The Ministry of National Education has put in place a contract which will set all the financial details that parents and private education establishments will have to respect, as well as the possible conditions for increases, indicates the Hespress site. In this context, Nour Eddine Akkouri, President of the Federation of Parents and Guardians of Students in Morocco, declared that the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sport will issue, from the next school year school. This contract, which will detail the registration and schooling obligations, will be signed by the families and the private educational establishments.

And to specify that under this contract, the families must accept the registration fees as well as the conditions of increase. He added that this will guarantee the rights of all parties involved. This will put an end to “random or arbitrary increases that private schools may consider”. It specifies when and how the increase will take place, as well as its conditions. If the conditions are not met, the increase will not be applied. He points out that “increase without good reason is called greed and must be eliminated”.

This decision comes as some private schools have announced new increases that will be applied from the next school year, from 100 dirhams or more.

Private educational institutions attract about 1.1 million students in total. Among them, 37,000 attend establishments affiliated with foreign systems in Morocco, which represents 0.5% of the total number of students.

According to data from the 2019-2020 school year, private education institutions employ more than 104,533 people, including 54,557 teachers, 32,447 responsible for services such as transport, supervision and cleaning, as well as 17,529 educational administrators and supervisors. .
