Jakarta –
Head of the Communication Bureau of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI) Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that so far there has been no talk of re-implementing distance learning (PJJ) in the midst of high pollution from DKI to South Tangerang. According to him, there are many options that can be done, instead of implementing PJJ.
Not without reason, referring to work from home (WFH) studies during the COVID-19 pandemic, PJJ also had an effect on children’s learning decline.
“We already have a study, right during WFH, how much is the impact of being left behind in learning. Because not everyone can do PJJ. There are still solutions such as installing an air purifier,” Dr. Nadia explained when met in the Central Jakarta area, Tuesday (15/8 /2023).

“Then there are policies that we are implementing to reduce air pollution. Such as car free days, and for electric vehicles, incentives with electric vehicles like that. I think there are already provisions in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry regarding this matter,” he continued.
Dr. Nadia reminded that the poor air quality is also often triggered by cigarette smoke. This is one of the risks that should not be ignored.
The increase of smoke-free areas, especially in schools and children’s playgrounds, needs to be considered.
“In principle, we are the ones who determine health. So according to our duties and functions, how do we educate people so that people stay healthy,” he said.
“Let’s not talk about air pollution, (even though) the main air pollution is smoking. That’s the closest. And we’re fighting for it if a smoke-free area really happens,” he concluded.
