Impact of artificial intelligence on employment, persistence of an informal economy where social protection leaves something to be desired, future of telework and controversy over Qatar. Elected in March 2022, the director general of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo has his work cut out for him. The man who is also the first African at the head of the organization and the former Prime Minister of Togo is aware of the major challenges that the ILO will have to take up.
He gave an interview to Temps a few days before an important date for the Confederation: this Tuesday, the Legal Affairs Commission of the Council of States is considering for a second time the ratification of ILO Convention 190, which provides for a legal prohibition of violence and workplace harassment. Switzerland could become this autumn the first country to refuse this ratification (see box).
