The chemical cocktail contains between five and seven agents that treat physical and mental ailments. These are medicines that are only available on prescription, such as valproic acid, tranylcypromine and pramipexole. Strokes, depression and Parkinson’s, among others, have been successfully treated with these drugs. Six cocktails have now been found with these agents that counteract aging of the body and rejuvenate human cells.
The research was conducted on mice and monkeys. According to Sinclair, signs of rejuvenation became visible after just one week. “Studies of the optic nerve, brain tissue, kidneys and muscles have shown promising results, with improved vision and longer lifespan in mice and, in April this year, improved vision in monkeys.”
The next step in the research is to test the chemical cocktails on humans. Preparations for this are in full swing. Other researchers, says Sinclair, are also working to show that “chemicals can rejuvenate cells like gene therapy can.”
