Little Italy, offered the opera Don Pasquale last Sunday as part of its Italfest 2023. Carole-Anne played the main female role there. It is the story of Nina who wishes to marry the heir of a rich uncle who opposes their unions. She will therefore use cunning and madness to get the uncle to give in and change his mind. To prepare the two hours of music, it took nearly 6 months of personal practice and a week of rehearsal.
“It was a comedy, it was very light and it was perfect for the set, because we had a stage as seen in the photos, it had costumes and sets with projections. It was filmed and reprojected on screens. It was presented in the open air so it was in the street, ”explains opera singer Carole-Anne Roussel.
The large-scale show took place at the intersections of Jean-talon and Saint-Zotique avenues, which were closed for the occasion in order to offer a worthy representation of an Italian-style comedy. The spectators were participative and understood perfectly the lyrics of the songs since it is their mother tongue.
“Several thousand people were there to listen to us sing and laugh with us. Everything we say when we were singing, even if it’s not in French and we’re in Quebec, people understood and could laugh with us and immediately follow what’s going on. . It’s as if he saw a play and not an opera, ”underlines the Soprano.
The competition finalist Queen Elizabeth 2023 has not been idle since his return from Belgium. In addition, she will collaborate in the coming months with various orchestras in addition to her ensemble Renouveau. She will sing in Greece this fall and in Italy in 2024.
