Xiaomi has just announced a foldable top model in China Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, which is a puzzle without significant compromises. The biggest one is the availability, which at the moment only includes China. Xiaomi’s global plans are not yet known, but it would be a great shame if Europe lost this piece of the puzzle (again). Let us remind you that even the brand’s previous puzzles were not sold in Europe.
Compared to its predecessor, Xiaomi has reduced the foldable hybrid by 17 percent. The novelty is thus narrower, thinner and lighter. When closed, the jigsaw has a thickness of 10.96 mm, when opened it is 5.26 mm. The redesigned hinge is composed of 198 components, which consist of three basic movement elements. The hinge is smaller and at the same time more durable, TÜV certified it for 500,000 folds, which is an unequivocal record in the world of folding devices. The improved drop-shaped hinge, which is supposed to have a less visible fold, can be stopped in half-open mode when disassembled between 45 – 135°. It can withstand much higher pressure from the sides, but Xiaomi did not add IP certification.

The external display with a diagonal of 6.56″ (aspect ratio 21:9) with a brightness of 1,300 nits complements the internal 8.03″ panel with a brightness of up to 2,600 nits. In both cases, these are E6 OLED LTPO displays (the inner one has a built-in polarizer), which support a 120Hz refresh rate, professional color calibration, and both panels include a 20Mpx selfie. The outer display is covered by Victus 2 glass, part of the inner panel is UTG glass with a thickness of 0.03 mm.
The back of the phone is made of glass. The gold variant is followed by black, which looks like artificial leather. The third in the batch is the special edition “Composite Fiber Verison”, which is significantly more durable. According to Xiaomi, it can also withstand the firing of a projectile from an air cannon. On the body of the phone, we also find two stereo speakers, volume controls, a side lock key and a USB-C connector.
Two telephoto lenses and wireless charging
Four Leica cameras were built into the ceramic photo module on the back. The 50 Mpx main sensor (F1.77) is complemented by a 12 Mpx wide-angle lens (F2.2), a 10 Mpx telephoto lens (3.2×, F2.0) and another 10 Mpx telephoto lens (5×, F2.92). Except for the wide lens, all lenses have built-in SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) optical stabilization. The pair of carbon-silicon batteries have a total capacity of 4,800 mAh, you can charge them with 67 Watts via cable or 50W wirelessly. With heavy use, the device should last for about a day and 8 hours on a single charge.

Performance is ensured by an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supplemented by 12 or 16 GB of RAM, the internal UFS 4.0 storage has a capacity of 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB. The total cooling area in the phone is 10,943 mm2.

The basic version of the Fold with 12/256GB memory will be sold for the same amount as the previous Mix Fold 2, i.e. for CNY 8,999, which is about CZK 27,500. The most expensive version (16GB/1TB) will cost approximately CZK 33,500. European distribution has not yet been confirmed, but if the device were to reach the Czech Republic, we expect the final prices to be much higher. The basic package will also include a snap-on cover for both parts of the phone.
