Trans Influencer Wendy Guevara Makes History as Winner of Reality Show in Mexico

The popular influencer Wendy Guevara Venegas became the first trans woman to succeed in a reality show in Mexico by winning the first prize of the television program La Casa de los Famosos, produced by Televisa.

After 10 weeks in the competition, he obtained 4 million pesos (approximately $234,000 or ¢125 million) and the constant recognition of the public inside and outside of Mexico.

For 71 days, Guevara told her story authentically and was hailed by people for her sincerity, vulnerability, humor, and spontaneity.

Before becoming an entertainment figure, Guevara, 30, engaged in prostitution with her trans partners.

By telling her story in La Casa de los Famosos -a Big Brother-style television format-, the influencer provided an authentic story about the lives of trans women, specifically in León, Mexico, her city of birth.

Since his childhood, Guevara suffered discrimination in his family and school environment. In one of the testimonials that he shared during the competition, he recounted that he did not finish high school.

Initially he suffered a traffic accident in fifth grade, which caused him to miss the school year. After this situation, she had to drop out of high school, just a month after starting her seventh year, since she suffered bullying from his classmates because he was different.

He also had problems in his family from an early age. Since she was little, she played with dolls secretly from her father and her brother, since they both beat her and were ashamed of how she behaved and her personality.

Now his story is different. The affection they have for him is such that people took to the streets to celebrate his triumph on television, filling places like the Zona Rosa and the Ángel de la Independencia in Mexico City, or his neighborhood of Coecillo, in Guanajuato.

His rise to fame came in 2017, when he got lost with his friend Paola Suárez on a hill and his video went viral on the Internet.

Later, she became a public figure who continued to make content with her colleagues Paola Suárez and Kimberly Irene, known as Las Perdidas.

Even one of Guevara’s best-known memes is his derogatory gesture, which he shared in one of his YouTube videos as a reaction to his partner Paola, who was bathing next to him.
