Wittek came over from Greuther Fürth on a free transfer three years ago, stayed with Vitesse for three seasons and was still in the starting line-up last Friday against FC Volendam (1-2 win). That was his last trick in Arnhem service: VfL Bochum bought off his one-year contract for an unknown amount.
“I had a wonderful time at Vitesse, where I have always felt very much at home,” Wittek responds to the Vitesse website. “My transfer to the Bundesliga fulfills a long-cherished wish, but I will never forget my time at Vitesse. The club will always have a place in my heart.”

Wittek played 111 matches for Vitesse and, thanks to his strong European performances, became ‘Mister Conference League’ and European top scorer of all time. “He is not only a class player, but also an exemplary professional. He has fully earned his transfer to the Bundesliga,” said technical director Benjamin Schmedes, who promises to announce a replacement soon.
You made us believe, Maxi! 💛 🖤
Thanks for everything and good luck with it @VfLBochum1848eV 🙌#Vitesse
