Controversial West London Studio Flat: Privacy Concerns and Viral Reactions

As autumn approaches, students around the world rush to get a roof over their heads. Advertisements about “area-efficient homes” then adorn countless rental sites – and there are also a lot of them.

But among newly refurbished student accommodation and great rental units with all facilities included, it happens that a couple of eye-catching adverts appear.

This time it’s a west London studio flat that’s getting people to react.

The internet is boiling over this

Not for the shy

The small dormitory, located in Craven Road, Baysweater, is probably not for the shy type:

The floor plan puts a lid on anything called privacy, as the bedroom and kitchen are shared – and in the middle of the room is a transparent shower cubicle with toilet and washbasin for public viewing.

The “shower-toilet,” which you apparently have to sneak in sideways to use, has a view straight out to the bed on one side, and to the kitchen on the other. You must therefore be quite up front to use the bathroom if you have guests…

Dizzying buzz

According to the ad is the dormitory a “very cool studio apartment with an excellent location in a popular area”.

Despite the particularly open floor plan, and the fact that there is neither a garden nor a parking lot, the crawl space also costs NOK 21,000 a month.

Heating, internet and electricity are also not included – but the microwave in the picture can apparently be included, if desired.

Several have taken to a student group on Facebook to react to the ad. Several people are upset about the price – and not least about the tiny bathroom in the middle of the room.

– It doesn’t work, comments an unimpressed woman.

You may have caught the viral “crazy plane lady” video that made its rounds on the internet a few weeks ago. Now someone who claims to be the woman in the video has spoken out in a new video, this time sharing her terms. Video: Tiktok/X. Reporter: Anabelle Bruun/Dagbladet TV Show more

Furthermore, several people are debating whether it is “actually legal” to rent out homes with such layouts.

It is not the first time that social media has boiled over English housing ads.

In July, Dagbladet wrote about another dormitory apartment with a shower cubicle in the middle of the room, which also set the internet on fire.

– Everything is wrong here, wrote one user at the time, after which another wrote that the dormitories in England are getting “sicker and sicker”.
