The Pokémon Company has shared that there are “increasing conversations” within its offices about the feasibility of its current Pokémon Series release schedule.
Recently, the Pokémon World Championships were held in Yokohama with a series of additional events to promote the games and the impending The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero expansion for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
In a crowdsourced interview, Comic Book asked COO Takato Utsunomiya if The Pokémon Company uses a calendar to determine when mainline and spin-off games should be released.
“I think in general, if you look at the past, the path we’ve followed so far has been this constant release, always regularly releasing products at a fairly fixed cadence, you could say,” he responded through a translator.
“Always having these products capable of being introduced and new experiences for our customers, and that’s how we’ve operated up to now,” Utsunomiya explained. As the World Championships were held over the weekend, announcements for Pokémon Go, Pokémon TCG, and Pokémon Sleep were also revealed for fans.
“I think we continue to do so, but there are more and more conversations, as development environments change, about how we can continue to do that, while also making sure that truly quality products are introduced as well,” he concluded.
In NME’s three-star review of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, technical issues such as stuttering, frame rate drops, and “more bugs than Viridian Forest” marred the experience. Utsunomiya may have been referring to the reception of the games when he mentioned that “quality” became a more pertinent point in these conversations.
In other video game news, Far Cry 5 and Far Cry: New Dawn screenwriter Drew Holmes has been promoted to IP director for the popular first-person shooter series.
