Rents in Manhattan See 9% Increase, Making it the Most Expensive County in New York City

Rents in New York continue to rise month-over-month, and in Manhattan, the median cost of renting an apartment is up 9 percent from last year.

This makes it the county with the highest rents in New York City.

The average cost in July 2022 was $5,113.

The study points out that in Brooklyn, the median rent for an apartment is $4,347 and in Queens, $4,003.

According to the authorities, to have healthy finances, people must dedicate 30 percent of their gross monthly income to rent.

Following this concept, a New Yorker would need to have a monthly income of $18,526 to be able to rent an average apartment in Manhattan without suffering financial hardship.

It should be noted that the Area Median Income or AMI for its acronym in English, which is a measurement established by New York to determine affordable housing projects, is $10,591 per month.

This means that the income needed to rent the apartment would be almost double the average income for a family of three.
