Ministry of the Interior Gives Over 180,000 Cards to Migrants for Humanitarian and Work Reasons

In the first half of the year, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) gave migrants more than 180,000 cards for humanitarian reasons, border work, permanent or temporary residence, and regional visits, since in addition to the programs that address the causes of migration , the federal government applies humanitarian and cooperation actions aimed at people from Central America and the Caribbean.

The Segob explained that one of these actions is the delivery of Border Worker Visitor Cards (TVTF), which is permission to work in Mexico in exchange for remuneration and provides the right to enter and leave the national territory as many times as desired. From January to June of this year, 3,165 of these cards have been delivered.

These data are part of the update of the monthly Bulletin of migration statistics 2023, which the Unit for Migration Policy, Registration and Identity of Persons (UPMRIP) of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) carried out at the end of the first semester of the year.

This report includes figures for the delivery of other types of cards for the population in a situation of mobility during this period: 81,593 Visitor Cards for Humanitarian Reasons (TVRH); 29,253 to people from Haiti; Honduras, 14,704; Cuba, 5,736; Guatemala, four thousand 037; and the rest, 27 thousand 863, correspond to different nationalities.

For men, 49,702 TVRH were issued, and for women, 31,891. Likewise, 90 were delivered to unaccompanied girls, boys, and adolescents.

The Segob explained that the Visitor Card for Humanitarian Reasons is requested from the immigration authorities; It is a document to which every person in a situation of mobility has the right, particularly in the case of unaccompanied children or adolescents, in addition to those who have been victims or witnesses of crimes committed in Mexico or are in the process of recognizing refugee status. .

At the same time, 35,575 Permanent Resident Cards (TRP) were delivered during the same period; It is an immigration document that is valid indefinitely. Of these, eight thousand 437 for foreigners by recognition of refuge, coming primarily from Honduras; the rest, 27 thousand 138, correspond to various nationalities.

In addition, 33,378 Regional Visitor Cards (TVR) were issued on the southern border of Mexico, delivered mainly to people from Guatemala (30,646), and the remainder (2,732) correspond to people of different nationalities.

This card is valid for five years and allows you to visit the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Yucatán for up to seven calendar days during each entry.

Finally, in what corresponds to Temporary Resident Cards (TRT), which is a document that is issued to foreigners who remain in Mexico for a period of no more than four years, 30 thousand 229 were delivered, from January to June of this anus.
