Westautobahn (A1) Blockage Lifted After Accident with Animal Transporter, Two Injured

The total blockage of the Westautobahn (A1) between Haag and Oed (Amstetten district) in the direction of Vienna was lifted overnight on Monday. The Ö3 traffic service reported this shortly after 2 a.m. The clean-up work after an accident with an animal transporter had dragged on for more than five hours. Two people were injured in the accident.

The vehicle overturned around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at kilometer 140 for reasons that are still unclear, came to rest across the road and caught fire. The two occupants, an approximately 50-year-old man and a woman of unknown age, were taken to the Amstetten State Hospital with injuries. There were no animals in the transporter. Both lanes and the hard shoulder were blocked.

According to Notruf Niederösterreich, two rescue vehicles, a rescue helicopter and an emergency doctor vehicle were involved in the rescue operation. The Haag and St. Valentin fire brigades were called to fight the fire. The Amstetten fire brigade also supplied a crane to salvage the van that was involved in the accident.
