In part of Zevenaar in Gelderland, residents must first boil tap water before drinking it. Tests by Vitens show that the bacterium enterococci was also found in a reservoir in Zevenaar-Zuid. The bacteria was previously found in Didam, which is close to Zevenaar. The cooking advice is precautionary.
Some eight thousand customers have been urgently advised to boil water from the tap for three minutes before drinking it. This concerns homes and businesses in the postcode areas 6902, 6905, 6909, 6911, 6913, 6914, 6915, 6916 and 6917 and a few connections outside.
The cooking advice for the residents of Didam has also been extended indefinitely. It was issued Friday and would be valid until at least Monday afternoon.
Vitens says it will inform the customers involved at the end of next week about how long the cooking advice will continue to apply in Didam and Zevenaar.
In the coming days, measurements will be taken again in Didam, Zevenaar-Zuid and in the surrounding area. “This is in order to determine the source and nature of the contamination and to be able to take necessary measures,” says Vitens.
Both storage reservoirs are now out of use. According to the drinking water company, there may be a temporary lower water pressure from the tap.
Last week, the bacteria was also found in reservoirs in Doorn (Utrecht). There, the cooking advice was valid for a week. The fact that the bacteria has now reappeared somewhere is purely coincidental, a Vitens spokesperson said earlier.
