The councils of Or Morrazo will once again be led by nationalist and leftist governments in these next four years. Faced with the euphoria of BNG, who achieved a comfortable absolute majority of 10 councilors in Moaña, under the leadership of Leticia Santos, even above what the polls gave him; to double results in Cangas with Araceli Gestido, where she went from 3 to 6 councilors and to resist in Bueu, where Félix Juncal maintains 8 councilors, there is the agony of PP, who in Cangas was only a handful of votes – just over thirty – from the absolute majority that 11 councilors gave him; in Moaña he could not with the force of the BNG, where he maintains his 6 ediles; and he almost succeeded in Bueu, where he went up one, from 6 to 7, but was left two short of the absolute majority with which he also trusted.

The defeat of the PP of Cangas was perhaps one of the most painful of the electoral night in the region, despite the fact that José Enrique Sotelo’s party, with 10 councilors, was the most voted in the municipality, with 5,908 votes, 43.60% of the ballots. Throughout the scrutiny he was caressing that absolute majority, fighting for the votes with the US that finally snatched it away by a hundredth of votes, and positioning himself with representation in the corporation with only 5.01% of the votes, very little above the minimum of 5% to enter the corporation. Three votes would have given municipal representation to the US. Its leader, Aurora Prieto, who in the last term was part of the corporation in the ACE coalition, manages to have her own seat. The EU obtained 679 votes and equals the party of the mayor and former ACE partner, Victoria Portas, with one councilor, who attended these elections with the initials of Oleiros, Alternativa dos Veciños (AV). Victoria Portas, who ruled with three councilors, only managed to keep one seat. AV received 863 votes, 6.36%. The elections are also the farewell to the historic frontist politician Mariano Abalo, who was 11th on the AV list.

In Cangas they debated again that either the PP governed or a government of four. Everything indicates that this will be the case with the groups on the left -BNG, PSOE, EU and Alternativa dos Veciños (AV)- destined to reach an understanding again, at least for the inauguration of the mayoress -the four groups are led by women-, after of a stormy mandate. Another thing will be those who, from now until after the constitution of the corporations, form a government. For now, the BNG is the one that has been strengthened the most, as the party of the left with the most votes, with 3,494 votes (25.78%). That is why people are beginning to talk about Araceli Gestido as a future mayoress.

Los Socialists from Cangas tried to defend their four councilors, but one has dropped, although at the headquarters of the rose party applause was heard with joy when it was learned that the PP had not finally achieved an absolute majority. With that applause they betrayed that the government of progress in Cangas was guaranteed, although one of the most controversial councilors of the party and local secretary, Eugenio González, will not be in the seats, unless there are movements on the list.

The head of the list, Iria Malvido, encouraged amid applause to continue working. The PSOE achieved 1,917 votes, 14.14% compared to 2,249 four years ago. In We canwith 281 votes (2.07%) nor Cangas Unido (C&U), with 204 (1.50%), have managed to enter the corporation. Now we will have to wait for the recount of the vote abroad to see if it changes the balance, although the PP assures that they do not expect changes in this regard and Sotelo insists that “there is no turning back.”

Moaña, territory of Leticia Santos

In Moaña, the overwhelming majority of the BNG, who will govern alone for the first time, without a coalition with the PSOE, felt like a jug of cold water in the popular ranks led by Javier Carro. The nationalists achieved 5,613 votes, 56.01% of the total. He wins 1,438 votes compared to the 2019 elections. The PP, for its part, received 3,192 votes, representing 31.85%, and 150 less than four years ago. For its part, Mario Rodríguez’s PSOE obtained 1,057 votes, 10.54% and fell from three councilors to one. He obtained 643 fewer ballots than four years ago.

The dispute in Bueu

By the way, the BNG is once again the most voted partywith 8 councilors, although it does not achieve an absolute majority, which it had obtained in 2007, 2011 and 2015, and must be understood with the PSOE to govern in coalition. The BNG obtained 2,778 votes, 44.56%. Camilo Macenlle’s Socialists maintain their two councilors with 749 votes, 12.01%. The PP is the only one that wins councilors and votes, but insufficiently to reach a majority. It was voted for by 2,593 people, 41.60%.

Election day passed normally in O Morrazo, except for an error in a Domaio electoral college, in Moaña, in which ballots from the municipality of Caldas de Reis were delivered, instead of Moaña. The Civil Guard was transferred, but it was not a reason to close the table and the initials of the ballots deposited with the name of Caldas were respected.

In regards to the stake, exceeded 60% in the three municipalities. In Cangas, 61.50% was reached, which is equivalent to 13,775 voters. Abstention was 38.49%, 8,621 people. There were 225 invalid votes (1.63%) and blank, 1.50% (204). Moaña was the municipality with the highest percentage of participation, 62.88%, which is 10,201 people. Abstention was 37.11% (6,020). There were 181 null votes (1.77%) and 158 blank votes (1.57%).

Finally, in Bueu the participation was 62.70%, which is equivalent to 6,355 people voting. Abstention was 37.29% (3,779). 122 invalid votes (1.91%) and 113 blank votes (1.81%) were counted.
