A heinous crime shook Luxor Governorate, in southern Egypt, where a young man set fire to his fiancée’s body after her decision to break off the engagement, which led to her suffering major deformities.
According to a security source’s statement to “Sky News Arabia”, the 27-year-old perpetrator, “Ahmed A”, took advantage of the opportunity of his fiancée being accompanied by her sister and mother only, and infiltrated the house in the village of Qibli Qamola in Luxor, where he reached her room without anyone noticing him. He poured gasoline on her body and then set it on fire.
The source confirmed the existence of differences between the perpetrator and the victim, “Marwa A”, who is 25 years old, which led to her decision to break off the engagement that took place last March, while the young man rejected her decision and planned revenge.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where the fire caused mutilations to the face and part of the abdomen, after the people succeeded in extinguishing the fire that caught it, and they kept the perpetrator until the police forces arrived and arrested him.
The detectives moved to the location of the incident to find out the circumstances, and after the initial examination, it was found that the perpetrator used gasoline to carry out his crime.
An official record of the incident was issued, and the prosecution was notified for investigation, while the nature of the disputes between the two parties has not yet been clarified.
Egyptian media reported that one of the motives for the crime was “jealousy,” referring to verbal altercations between the perpetrator and his fiancée before committing the crime.
