The creator of the “Cadence-Lypso”, Gordon Henderson, is in concert this Sunday August 13, 2023 at Le Lamentin. The Dominican star, founder of the Exile One group, performs as part of the city’s patronal feast. Aged 74 today, this singer with a unique voice is one of the Caribbean musical references, who, for sure, will be in front of a very large audience who will be able to sing along to each of his unforgettable hits.

Gordon Henderson, a native of the island of Dominica, has been on stage for over 50 years. But time has no hold on this sober man, of great humility, who was General Manager of DBS, the National Radio of his country and architect of the World Creole Music Festival in Roseau.
Gordon is at the origin of the “Cadence Lypso”, a musical current which will be quickly adopted by his fellow musicians and artists such as Ophelia, Jeff Joseph, the group Midnihgt Groovers, Black Affairs, Bill Ô Men…
Sometimes engaged tubes
And to make this original music travel, sometimes committed, which at the time was confused with the “Caribbean cadence”, before the advent of Kassav’s “Zouk” (in 1979), the singer with the inimitable voice staged “Exile One ” in 1972, with friends of his generation.
The repertoire is enriched very quickly with hits like “Aki Yaka“, “Work for nothing“, or “Look back“, “Rosita“, “Creole diamond“, “Never see this” etc…
Exile One was the first formation to produce synthetic music and the first group from its island to have signed with majors.
A very strong link with the West Indian public
All these hits and more are featured in Gordon’s tour repertoire, which, here as in Guadeloupe or elsewhere, has kept a very strong link with the public, and for good reason, the quality has no expiry date. Because even at 74, the artist has managed to preserve the vocal presence of his debut.

Gordon says he is happy to play in Martinique this summer, especially since he is performing more often in the Pacific. With an average of 8 concerts per year, the star finds the time to spend time with his friends (like those in California where the Gommiers are exhibited), and to enjoy life after so many years of music.
