The defense of the Black Sea has become a strategic priority for NATO, with the role and responsibilities of the Bulgarian Navy constantly growing.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev during the ceremony for the awarding of the first officer epaulettes to the 2023 “Vasil Levski” graduating class from the Higher Naval School in Varna, BTA quoted him as saying.
The Black Sea has become an area of serious energy projects, growing political and military tension, Tagarev pointed out, and the region has witnessed the first large-scale war on the European continent in 78 years, as well as continuous provocations towards NATO countries. For these reasons, the Alliance focuses on the protection of the region, emphasizing its importance for the security, economy, transport and ecology of the countries of the region.
The minister emphasized the role of the Naval Forces, emphasizing the need for investments in them and their integration with the other armed forces of the NATO member countries. He drew attention to the young officers of the Military Academy of Military Academy, stating that they will play a key role in the implementation of the Alliance’s strategy and Bulgaria’s commitments to strengthen security in the Black Sea.
Concluding his speech, Tagarev stated that he was proud of the Bulgarian naval officers and emphasized the contribution of VVMU to the high level of education and training of young specialists in the field.
