Escalating Violence in Sudan: Army Bombs Rapid Support Forces as Battles with North People’s Movement Intensify

And in the state of South Kordofan, local sources told Al-Jazeera that violent battles took place between the Sudanese army and the forces of the “North People’s Movement – Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu Wing” in the Delami area (southeast of Dilling).

The sources added that the SPLM forces attacked the strategic military garrison of Delami, and fierce fighting took place between the two sides.

Al-Jazeera correspondent also quoted Sudanese sources as saying that there were dead and wounded people in Nyala (the capital of South Darfur state), as a result of renewed artillery shelling between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Tribal clashes in Darfur

In addition, local sources revealed to Al-Jazeera that tribal fighting in Darfur (western Sudan) claimed the lives of at least 120 people within two days.

Clashes erupted between the “Bani Halba” (Arab) and “Masalit” (African) tribes in West Darfur state.

Ethnic-motivated violence escalated in Darfur, coinciding with the clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which erupted last April.

Meanwhile, the governor of the Darfur region called on the two parties to the conflict in Sudan to stop the war immediately and engage in political dialogue, and said that the political solution should be left to the Sudanese people.

And with the continuation of the fighting, the health situation deteriorated, as relief agencies in Sudan warned that the country was getting closer and closer to a comprehensive health disaster.

The National Council of Medicines and Toxicology announced the preparation of a list of medicines that are not available or in short supply.
