Springfield (USA), Aug 12 (EFE).- Marc Gasol went to Springfield (Massachusetts, USA) this Saturday to accompany his brother Pau at his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
“It’s overwhelming,” Marc said in statements to NBA TV before the ceremony.
The pivot pointed out that it is “great to see all these legends” in this great event and stressed that Pau is part of “an incredible promotion” of the Hall of Fame, since other stars of this sport such as Dirk Nowitzki also appear along with Gasol , Tony Parker, Dwyane Wade, Becky Hammon or Gregg Popovich.
Marc also stated that, after he and Pau helped open doors for Spanish basketball in the NBA, now it is about the next generations continuing to succeed in the elite of this sport.
Double NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, Pau Gasol is the first Spanish player to enter the Hall of Fame.
Gasol thus joins coaches Pedro Ferrándiz and Antonio Díaz-Miguel as the only Spanish representatives in the Hall of Fame.
This tribute to Gasol comes just five months after the Lakers, the team in which he formed an unforgettable duo with Kobe Bryant, retired his jersey with the number 16.
A six-time NBA All-Star, Gasol, 43, also left an indelible mark on the Spanish team, with which he won the 2006 World Cup, the Eurobaskets in 2009, 2011 and 2015, as well as three Olympic medals (silver in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and bronze in Rio 2016).
