La Lanterna Mágika Cinema Club Presents the Magical Film Week: A Celebration of Alternative Cultural Programming and Iconic Spanish Cinema

One more year, as it has been doing Since 1990, the La Lanterna Mágika cinema club in blindness organizes, in the heart of the month of August, the Magical Film Week. The summer cinema will take over the Club Atalaya patio from Tuesday the 15th to Monday the 21st of this month.

«Challenging uncertainty, and betting on alternative cultural programming that resists in a world of tiny screens and dominated by digital platforms and subscribers” are the pillars of this cultural proposal that the residents of the town welcome each year with expectant eyes.

This new edition will revolve around an iconic couple of Spanish cinema: Francisco Rabal and Assumption Balaguer, heritage of art in this country. Although his legacy will be present throughout the edition, the main act in tribute to the two actors will be on Tuesday, the first day of the cycle, when the documentary ‘Paco, my father’ will be screened, signed by his son Benito. The tribute will end on the last day of the festival, Monday the 21st, with ‘The man who lost his shadow’. Both screenings will have free admission.

On the 16th it will be screened ‘I’m madly loving you‘, a story about the Spanish laws that persecuted homosexuality in the 70s in this country and that, since its recent premiere a month ago, has garnered good words from critics and the public.

Wes Anderson’s pastel visual ingenuity will find its place the next day with a screening of ‘Asteroid City’which hit the screens last June with a stellar cast and a unique look at stellar science fiction.

‘20,000 species of bees‘, the award-winning first film by Estíbaliz Urresol, a visual diary about the personal journey of a trans girl, can be seen on the 18th.

The night of the 19th will be focused on animal awareness with ‘EO‘, a Polish film that focuses on our relationship with animals and the rise of fascism.

On the 20th, one of the most anticipated events of each edition of this cycle will take place: a nod to silent cinema with the screening of ‘One Week’ y ‘Never Weaken‘, to which the traditional jazz band Andrés Santos Station Band will provide a soundtrack.

Tickets are priced at 5 euros per session (except for the one on the 20th, which will cost 10 euros), and season tickets are available for the 4 films that will be shown from Wednesday to Saturday for 15 euros.

All sessions will begin at 9:45 p.m.
