“My country, my Bulgaria” in Chalga version. A cover version of Emil Dimitrov’s iconic song appeared with this plot days ago on social networks and caused a wave of dissatisfaction. Who is the author of the scandalous interpretation and what is the reaction of society and relatives of Emil Dimitrov?
In the city center of Pleven stands the monument to Emil Dimitrov. Pleven is the hometown of the great star of Bulgarian variety and world music. The man sang the song “My country, my Bulgaria”. 50 km to the west is the city of Knezha, where the “Gypsy Folk” orchestra and the soloist Christopher, nicknamed Pharaoh, released a cover of this iconic song a few days ago, which outraged many people and caused huge dissatisfaction in the public space. It even got to the point where the cover was removed from social networks.
The author of the text and performer is 28-year-old Christopher Galovski from the city of Knezha. “Who would have noticed me if I hadn’t done it with a song?” asked the performer.
Influencers under fire: Should their activities be regulated?
The song was spotted a few days ago on social media and has caused a lot of reactions. The history of Bulgarian music does not remember such a cover of “My Country, My Bulgaria”. The message of Christopher from Knezha, who is also the author of the new text, was aimed at the political class in our country.
“I am a Roma, a gypsy. This is my way of singing. I cannot sing it in any other way. With a request, rather to our rulers. This is a peaceful protest from my side. To change things in Bulgaria. To we can all be together. I speak on behalf of 3.5 million Bulgarians who are abroad. Not only Bulgaria, but Roma who are in Germany. They want to hear this song. I am a creator. Regardless of how I am sang it. It’s more important that the song be heard,” said Christopher Galowski, singer from Knezha.
“I say “My country Germany” and “My love, my Bulgaria. What does this mean? I earn money in Germany and spend it in Bulgaria,” adds the performer.
For some, infuriating, for others, Christopher’s message evokes indifference.
“I wouldn’t say that I like it. But it’s their community and it’s their understanding of things. Anyone who wants to can do such things. As long as the rights to the songs are respected,” said a resident of Pleven.
The song is by the great and unattainable Emil Dimitov. Chrisso Faraona has not paid royalties.
“Actually, I’m not surprised by what’s happening. I’m not surprised by the behavior and development of our entire society, which has lost its spirituality over the last 30 years. I can’t describe in words the feeling I felt. I immediately remembered what would said my father if he heard this. This song was written under very difficult conditions, on the occasion of my birth under very difficult conditions. He was in France to make a career. He was going through quite a lot when he wrote this song. He moved buckets with coal. Let’s not forget that in this song it was initially stopped by a commission in the BNR. This song belongs to all Bulgarians. Nothing that it was written for me. I am also an heir. And it has a very great value and any changes in it is inadmissible. A red line has been crossed and the fact that society is reacting is a very good sign. Here we have violations of several articles of the Law – property and non-property”, said Emil Dimitrov – son.

The unwritten law of morality is also affected. After the uproar, “My Country…My…Germany” was taken down from social media, and Christopher from The Prince admitted that he might have been wrong.
“I want to apologize to the family if I have offended anyone. I did not mean to desecrate and offend anyone with this song. All revenue and funds from the viewership will go to the author and composer who created the song,” said Christopher Galowski, singer of Princess.
And Emil Dimitrov – Jr. has not yet decided whether he will seek his rights under the law.
“I hope to see the guy who produced it and sang this soon. To hear his version. Everyone has the right to make a mistake. Everyone has the right to apologize. We can’t hang someone just for trying something.” , pointed out Emil Dimitrov – son
And Christopher from Knezha and his “Gypsy Band” are already preparing another cover, from another dimension in music. What is it – watch in the video.
