El Niño and La Niña: Climate Patterns and Their Impact on Global Weather

El Niño and La Niña are climate patterns in the Pacific Ocean that can affect weather around the world. During this phenomenon, the trade winds weaken, and warm water is pushed to the east, to the western coast of America.

“In July, the surface water temperature in the equatorial Pacific Ocean was above average, indicating the continuation of the El Niño phenomenon,” the National Weather Service said.

The US government meteorological agency estimates that El Niño has been going on since December 2023 and will last until February 2024. The World Meteorological Organization has warned that weather conditions could contribute to rising global temperatures.

Abnormal heat in the world

July 2023 was the hottest month on record. Scientists believe that it may be the warmest in the last 120,000 years on the planet.

More than a dozen historical temperature records were broken in the United States in June. President Joe Biden has announced measures to deal with the effects of the heat wave.
