The Dangers of Daily Low-Dose Aspirin: New Study Shows Higher Risks than Benefits

The usual medicine that is in every home first aid kit is fraught with big trouble.

Many people should think twice before drinking this drug daily.

According to a new study published in the medical journal JAMA Network Open, daily low-dose aspirin use does not provide significant protection against stroke, but is associated with a higher incidence of cerebral hemorrhage and not only. This was stated by scientists from the US and Australia.

Taking a “quarter” of aspirin is often recommended by doctors around the world. Some cardiologists say that daily aspirin should remain part of the diet for people who have had a heart attack or stroke. It is believed that the “miracle drug” “thinns” the blood and thus protects against blood clots.

The new study involved 19,000 people from several countries. The participants were over 70 years of age and did not suffer from heart disease.

The data spanned an average of five years and showed that aspirin reduced the rate of ischemic stroke, but only very slightly. At the same time, in older people who took aspirin daily at a dose of 100 mg / day, compared with placebo, there was a significant jump in the risk of intracranial bleeding by 38%.

In addition, cases of excessive intracellular bleeding included hemorrhagic stroke, as well as dural and subdural bleeding associated with head trauma, such as from falls.

The study also found a significant association between daily aspirin use and the risk of major upper gastrointestinal bleeding and death.

“We can state with absolute certainty that healthy people who do not have multiple risk factors should not take aspirin,” the doctor of medical sciences, a participant in the scientific study, told reporters.
