The Perseid meteor shower will occur tonight. To be precise, on Sunday (13/8/2023) in the morning around 01.30 to 05.00 local time.
Thomas Djamaluddin, Senior Researcher for Astronomy and Astrophysics at BRIN, said that the Perseid meteor shower is an annual occurrence when the earth encounters dust from comet Swift-Tuttle.
Reporting from Antara, Thomas revealed that the Perseid meteor shower is classified as a meteor shower that is quite strong with an average of one to two meteors per minute.
This space phenomenon can be witnessed throughout Indonesia in the early hours of the morning at 01.30 to 05.00 local time.
The conditions for witnessing the Perseid meteor shower are clear weather, the observation location is not disturbed by light pollution, and the terrain is northeast-north, and is not obstructed by buildings or trees.
The Perseids are one of the brightest meteor showers of the year, which everyone can witness. The meteor shower originates from comet Swift-Tuttle, a ball of ice and boulders that shed dusty debris as it orbits around the sun. (ant/saf/faz)
