The pilots lost their lives when a Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet crashed somewhere in Kaliningrad on Saturday, Russian authorities say.
This is reported by the state-run Russian news agency Interfax, which does not specify where in Kaliningrad the crash occurred. The RIA news agency quotes the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying that two pilots lost their lives in the crash.
– The Su-30 aircraft crashed in a deserted area. It had no ammunition on board during the flight. The crew perished, the statement quoted by the agency said.
The cause of the accident is said to have been a technical fault, but further details are not given.
Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave located on the Baltic Sea, sandwiched between the NATO countries Poland and Lithuania.
