KPK and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collaborate to Pursue Paulus Tannos in the e-KTP Case

Jakarta

The KPK is currently coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in a proposal to revoke the status of a foreign citizen owned by a fugitive in the e-KTP case Paulus Tannos. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would support law enforcement steps taken by the KPK.

“This is a matter of law enforcement and the task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to provide support for law enforcement efforts,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah when contacted, Saturday (12/8/2023).

The KPK, through the PJKAKI Directorate (Development of Networks between Commissions and Agencies) said that it had established communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the dual citizenship status of Paulus Tannos. The Corruption Eradication Committee hopes that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can represent the Indonesian government in establishing communication with countries on the African continent that have granted Paul Tannos citizen status.

Teuku has not specified the steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting the efforts of KPK in the Paul Tannos case. He said he would check first.

“I will check first,” he said. He answered a question about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs having established communication with the country granting citizenship to Paulus Tannos.

The search for the fugitive in the e-KTP case, Paulus Tannos, is being intensified by the KPK. The anti-corruption agency team claimed to have coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Paulus Tannos’ dual citizenship.

“We have coordinated with the Directorate of PJKAKI (Development of Networks between Commissions and Agencies), have coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that we will ask, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ask the government in the country that issued the passport that the person concerned is an Indonesian citizen and here committed a crime,” KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur told reporters.

Paulus Tannos is known to have changed his identity to Tjhin Thian Po. He also has a new passport and citizenship that he got from a country in the African region.

Asep said that by coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his party was trying so that the country that gave the new passport to Paulus Tannos could revoke the citizenship of the fugitive.

“They were asked to revoke their citizenship there,” he said.

According to Asep, coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the steps to revoke Paulus Tannos’ foreign citizenship is still ongoing. He said that this effort was taken at this time after the KPK became aware of Paul Tannos’ dual citizenship.

“Because only a few months ago we found out that the name had changed, had a passport changed. Then we have proposed re-issuing a red notice with a new name,” said Asep.

“That’s why we conveyed through PJKAKI, we conveyed that to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs we would convey it to the country that issued the passport,” he added.
