Adventure weekend “Summer by the river”
Heidelberg’s first drone show as a program highlight
On Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the city will move closer to the water when it’s time again: “Summer by the river”.
Music for every taste is played on two stages, there is a great children’s program on the Krahnenplatz, information stands provide information about sustainability and environmental protection, the city beaches become a holiday paradise and a diverse culinary offer rounds off the event. There are also two new program items: a water ski and a drone show.
During “Summer on the River”, the B37 belongs to pedestrians and becomes a promenade between the Alter Brücke and the Neckarlauer near the Stadthalle.
“The ‘Summer by the River’ will once again bring that terrific holiday feeling to Heidelberg. This year with two unique program items: An acrobatic water ski show and, for the first time in Heidelberg, a drone show,” says Mathias Schiemer, Managing Director of Heidelberg Marketing.
Heidelberg’s first drone show rises on Saturday at 10 p.m. – “Ohs” and “Ahs” are guaranteed.
A total of 200 drones will light up the evening sky over the Neckar. A varied staging with various light and laser effects and water fountains as well as background music will amaze the spectators.
The optimal location for the spectacle and the background music is on the event area on the B37, between Alter Brücke and Marstall as well as from the Neckarstaden.
Danger: The show cannot be seen from the well-known vantage points of the castle illumination, namely from the northern bank of the Neckar/the Neckarwiesen and from the Philosophenweg!
Shortly before the show, the Old Bridge and Neuenheimer Landstraße in the immediate vicinity of the Old Bridge must be completely closed to all road users, including pedestrians. The closure will last about 30 – 40 minutes.
Die „Show Ski All Stars“ with the reigning vice world champions in water skiing will conjure up acrobatics, action and comedy on the river on Saturday at 3.15 p.m. and on Sunday at 1.15 p.m.

This year Metropolink celebrates its premiere at the summer by the river Stage at the Heuscheuer. DJs from the region ensure a relaxed atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday against the illuminated Metropolink backdrop.
Children’s oasis on the Krahnenplatz
Games, fun and excitement await the little guests around the Krahnenplatz.
There is a great hands-on program for children as well as child-friendly information on sustainability and environmental protection and of course face painting or a basketball hoop and the children’s carousel nearby should not be missing.
A special highlight: the traveling theater Carnivore is presenting a world premiere of the picture-book silent film theater play “Cosy & Frutte”. It will be performed at 2pm and 4.30pm on Saturday and at 3pm on Sunday.
The play is about the fruit seller Cozy, with whom the viewers live through a working day full of longing and daydreams. In addition, Mr. Quick from Funk Circle, two-time UDO Dance World Champion, plays and dances. The reason for the piece was a Heidelberg childhood memory of a small grocery store on Schlossstrasse.
Promenade along the Neckar
Information stands on the topics of sustainability, e-mobility and charging infrastructure for apartment buildings can be visited on the promenade.
The topic of electric vehicles is of particular importance – from e-cars to e-motorcycles to e-bikes.
city beaches
The city beaches at Neckarlauer and at the Old Bridge transform Heidelberg into a holiday paradise by the water. Here you can enjoy the summer with your feet in the sand or in a deck chair with a drink at the beach bar.
The B37 will be closed from Saturday, August 19, 2023, 6 a.m. to Sunday, August 20, 2023, 9 p.m. from the Old Bridge to Montpellierplatz / Stadthalle. The detour is through the Schlossberg Tunnel.
There are also temporary restrictions on the northern bank of the Neckar for the drone show on Saturday evening. Visitors are asked to pay attention to the information and detour signs on site and to drive around the inner city area or to travel by public transport. Corresponding information can be found on the RNV homepage at www.rnv-online.de. The multi-storey car parks in the city remain open without restrictions.
