The Prague Pride festival parade culminates in a surprise. The famous LP will sing at Letná

Saturday’s parade organized by the festival of sexual minorities Prague Pride will culminate with an unannounced concert by the popular American singer LP. She is currently shooting a video clip for a song from the upcoming album in the Czech capital. Under normal circumstances, her appearance would be preceded by a several-month advertising campaign.

The artist will sing this Saturday, August 12, on the Rainbow Stage, which will be located in the so-called Pride Park on Prague’s Letná, he wrote Novinky.cz server. “We were hugely surprised when the LP production told us that they wanted to shoot their music video at Prague Pride. It’s a great honor for us,” confirmed festival director Kamila Fröhlichová.

LP will arrive on stage at 18:45 and sing a few songs. The new song Dayglow will be played twice in her set, during which the crew will shoot footage for the upcoming video clip.

Tens of thousands of Czechs take part in the rainbow pride parade of homosexuals, bisexuals, trans and queer people as part of Prague Pride every year at the beginning of August. They usually come with rainbow flags or face paint. The event has a celebratory character, but at the same time draws attention to issues of marriage, registered partnership or adoption of children.

The participants of this year’s parade will meet on Saturday around 12:30 in the lower part of Wenceslas Square. From here, they will continue to the Old Town Square via Čechův bridge to Letenská plain, where Pride Park will be built. There, visitors can enjoy a music program on six stages, they state organizers.

LP singer, whose real name is Laura Pergolizzi, identifies with the LGBTQ+ community, identifies outside of gender polarity, and uses the pronouns they/their, among other things. She already shot a music video for the song in Prague this year One Like You.

The artist travels to the Czech Republic repeatedly, last year she performed at Colors of Ostrava, after which she attracted 3,000 people to Prague’s Karlín Forum in the fall. She ended this concert with a hit Lost on Youwhich has over three billion plays on streaming platforms.

Born to an Irish mother and an Italian father, the singer and songwriter waited 15 years for success. She released her debut album in 2001, but she did not gain much attention until her thirties with her fourth recording named after the song Lost On You. It was released in 2016 and scored particularly well in Europe and Russia.

Until then, LP made a living by writing songs for more successful colleagues, which included, among others, the Backstreet Boys, Rihanna and Cher. She got her nickname from the days when she earned extra money in a bistro as an eighteen-year-old. One Laura already worked there, that’s why her colleagues started calling her LP and it stuck with her.

On Churches, the last album from last year, the singer expands her sound to flamboyance and goes against the trend of the time, which revels in intimacy and whispers. “In her songs, mainstream craftsmanship meets turbulent emotions. After all, these are symbolized by the sailboat tattooed on her chest. LP is not afraid of grandiose pop gestures,” Aktuálně.cz wrote about the album.

Next month, the artist will release a new album, Love Lines. It will also include the song Dayglow with a video clip shot now in Prague. So far, she has released three singles from this LP, the most recent Love Song last week.
